El concierto de Genesis en Katowice (Polonia) en 1998 (1ª parte)

Phil Collins estaba harto de fracasar en su vida marital y familiar, y todo aquello fue porque él mismo no supo mantener el equilibrio entre su carrera musical y su vida privada. Por eso, Collins, quien fuera cantante y batería de Genesis durante 25 años, decidió abandonar la banda en 1996 y, así, dedicarse sólo a su carrera en solitario y a su actual familia con mayor tranquilidad. En aquel momento, Phil se estaba divorciando por segunda vez.

Entonces, Mike Rutherford y Tony Banks decidieron dar nuevos aires a la banda contratando a Ray Wilson, ex-vocalista de la banda de grunge Stilskin, quien además era un fan de la banda desde su niñez. Una vez que Wilson estaba dentro, grabaron el que sería, por ahora, su último disco en estudio, «Calling all stations» («Llamando a todas las estaciones»), logrando así el éxito en Europa pero, desgraciadamente, fracasaron en E.E.U.U.

Los vídeos recogidos aquí son las retransmisiones emitidas por la cadena de TV polaca TVP1, que recogió el concierto de Genesis realizado en Katowice el 31 de Enero de 1998. En este post se recoge la primera mitad del concierto. Lo que sí dejarán claro estos vídeos, y los de la segunda parte, es que Wilson no estaba preparado para cantar, al menos, dos canciones de Phil Collins: «Domino» y «Throwing It All Away» (ver a él cantando esta última es un poco triste). Aquí pienso que hubieran necesitado a otro cantante para interpretarlas. Sin embargo, estoy de acuerdo con los aficionados de la banda en que, desde luego, Ray fue excelente cantando los temas de la etapa de Peter Gabriel en la banda («The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway», «Carpet Crawlers», «Dancing With The Moonlit Knight (Intro)», y «Supper’s Ready/Lover s Leap»).

Por cierto, Anthony Drennan, el bajista y guitarrista situado al lado de Rutherford, hizo una gran interpretación de «Firth Of Fifth», además de hacer buenos solos a lo largo de todo el concierto.
